What this is, honestly: a reading and grammar test. It shows what you recognise, which is not the same as what you can say. Your speaking level is usually a step below your reading level, so treat the result as where to start, not as your CEFR level.

One answer per question: a test you can retry scores everyone 100%. The answer options are shuffled each time.

How the result is worked out

Ten questions per level, climbing from A1

        1. 10 questions each

          A1, A2 and B1, in that order.

        2. 7 of 10 counts as solid

High enough that guessing between four options doesn't reach it, low enough that one careless slip doesn't drop you a level.

        3. You start where it stops being solid

The result walks up from A1 and stops at the first level that isn't yet solid.

The Learn German page takes you from A1 to B1 step by step: which level you need for what, how long it takes, and where the Goethe exam fits.
